Configurations & Parameters

And without a COVID introduction, 2.2.4 is out, with 3 notable features among the myriad of other additions (and bug fixes):

  1. Parameters Configurations
  2. Navisworks Selection Sets Generation
  3. App Branding options with custom icon and footer

Parameters Configurations

In your Project (formerly ‘Data Node’) setup dialogue, you can now jump into Parameters editing, and define Configurations.

Configurations allow you to override the expression or value of a parameter, or set of parameters, to create different working environments.

From the main application area, the toolbar then displays the available configurations in a drop down to pick from.

For compatible data sources (e.g. SQL, AIMS etc.) changing parameters can trigger a refresh of the data and corresponding filtering. Using SQL data sources for instance, you can filter the source data in your query (WHERE ColumnName = ‘{ProjectName}’

We have also extended parametrisation support for the SQL data source, with the database name and server address now accepting parameters. Combined with configuration this means from the same app you can switch between a dev and production environments just from the drop down.

Generating Selection Sets in Navisworks

You can now generate selection sets automatically in Navisworks using the ID Match and data fields.

Based on the fields selected for naming, and optionally grouping the sets, BIMSens will create a selection sets tree. Just follow this simple clue path ;).

Giving your App a Personal Touch

From the Project configuration dialogue, you can now select a couple branding options:

  1. A custom icon for your app that will be displayed in the Sources Tree as the top node, in the Standalone BIMSens viewer as the main window icon, and therefore also in the Windows toolbar as your app icon.
  2. A banner to display at the bottom of the Sources Tree

Both can be selected by browsing the project Resources, either importing new files or using some from the BIMSens library.

What else?

This already makes for a promising new release, but there are plenty of other small tweaks added, the list of which you can consult here.
