Configuring Connections

Previous Next

NOTE

Before diving in, consider having a quick look at the Terminology of BimSens and the use of the Sources Manager Tree  if you are not yet familiar with it.

Configuring a New Connection

To load data in the BimSens control, you must configure a connection using the Sources Manager Tree.

  1. Create a new DataNode
  2. Add a DataSource from the available types
  3. Edit the DataSource and add a DataView
  4. Optionally, customise the DataView with one or several Layouts to manage columns visibility and order and formatting

TIPS

You can use the Export button to save the configuration as a shareable xml file, but BimSens will always remember the last used connection and restore it every time it is restarted.

Resuming a Connection Previously Configured

If you already configured a BimSens connection during a previous session, it will automatically be restored at the next session, and you can simply double click one of the DataViews or Layouts in the Sources Manager Tree to reopen the connection, and display the latest data.

Open a Connection from an xml Configuration File

You might have been given an xml file with all the setup already prepared. You can load xml configuration files using the Open or Append button, and selecting the xml file. If the file is a valid DataNode it will be added to the Sources Manager Tree.

NOTE

All licence levels of BimSens do not support all configuration files. Refer to the licence details or the version comparison for more information.

Double click one of the DataSource's DataView or Layout to open the connection.

NOTE

You will need to enter a Login and Password to connect to most DataSources, ask the DataSource provider if you don't know them.

Some DataSource can authenticate you from your Windows account (Windows Authentication), other do not require authentication at all. In any case, personal details are never saved in configuration files.
