Web Sharing in 3.0

Watch it!

We got a special surprise for our 3.0 release, what we see as the start of a new era for BIMSens: web publishing of models and data into interactive apps that you can share with anyone. We partnered with the brain trust @BIMWatcher for the occasion.

Currently allowing you to share small models and associated data, with colour filters on. A super easy way to share a report with someone that doesn’t have Navisworks or the skills to navigate a complicated 3D model.

How does it work? Simple, open a Project in BIMSens or in Navisworks and click Share:

That will pop up a dialogue to confirm the scope of what you want to share depending on the context. Hint: don’t be scared.

and returns a url like this to an app you can distribute among your colleagues.

If you are already in the app, use the in-app sharing button to let others on site get access to the same data just by scanning a code.

It comes with the minimum functionality for navigation and the usual interactive selection, but we’ll be using your feedback to decide what to add next:

  • taking measurement and survey points,
  • attaching documents for documentation to site and report from site,
  • adding comments and annotations for design coordination or site instructions,
  • viewpoints, sets, sections,
  • filling forms to record quality completion on site,
  • editing data to report progress,
  • synchronising back to your on-premise data source or the model,
  • show instruments data and associated displacements,
  • visualising data in simple charts for a mini-BI platform?

You name it. Preferably without mentioning AR or Digital Twin.

What else?

That’s our most promising update and may hide the volume and quality of other changes brought by version 3.0 directly in BIMSens, but it includes:

  • Syntax highlighting for SQL and Html, with auto complete for parameters insertion
  • SQL query builder with shortcuts
  • Boards improvements with default controls, drag and drop auto layouts, creating boards directly from Views or Layouts
  • Fixed size footer, header and side panels
  • Custom in app help content or external links rendered locally
  • various enhancements around configuration switch especially for multi parameters server/database/query on SQL
  • New data export formats and improved transfers interface including new feature for Navisworks selection sets creation
  • Various bug fixes and no doubt a few new ones introduced

We are really excited by this release and keen to get the BIMSens community to drive BIMWatcher development in the future, so please, continue sharing your ideas with us, there is so much more we can do together.
